Short Notice Events
Help the grid when it needs it most by taking part in events announced with less warning than usual.
Most Axle events are scheduled a day in advance. Occasionally the grid needs support at shorter notice, so we'll run events at shorter notice. You'll typically get at least 2 hours' warning before one starts. Taking part is entirely optional: you're opted out by default and can change your preference at any time.
What are short notice events?
A short notice event works just like a regular Axle event: your device is dispatched to support the grid for a set period, and you'll still earn £1/kWh for the flexibility you provide. The only difference is the amount of advance warning: instead of being scheduled the day before, you'll typically be notified at least 2 hours before the event starts. Sometimes this also means events only last for 30 minutes rather than a full hour.
Behind the scenes, these are often (but not always) Demand Flexibility Service (DFS) events. DFS is a National Grid scheme that rewards households for shifting their electricity use when the grid is under pressure, for example on cold, still winter evenings. Because DFS events are often called in response to grid conditions on the day, they come with less notice than our usual events.
